Between the Rivers
Maggie Lorena Corbinn has always wanted to get an education, marry a man with refinement, and surround herself with interesting people—but her dreams aren't likely to come true in early twentieth-century rural North Carolina. When her Aunt Mag arranges for her to attend Baptist Female University, Maggie jumps at the chance. Packing her prized possessions into her steamer trunk, she boards the train for Raleigh. College is everything she's always imagined it would be: she acts in a production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, studies music theory, and falls in love. Maggie goes home that Christmas full of plans for the future--until tragedy strikes. Too devastated to go back to college, she accepts an offer to teach school in the backwoods of Onslow County. The last thing she expects is to meet the man of her dreams. Suddenly everything starts to fall into place—but when events take an unexpected turn, Maggie must make a decision that will change the course of her life forever.
